Submerged-arc and direct-current furnaces convert prepared chrome ore into charge chrome and ferrochrome for stainless-steel production.

Typical stainless steel contains about 18% chromium. That small share forms a passive surface layer, helping steel resist corrosion and retain its finish across infrastructure, manufacturing and everyday products.
